The Dataset
What the growing games dataset shows: release patterns, platforms, developers, decades.
The Dataset section is for articles about this site's own data. Every game covered here gets a row in a games table published as a CSV, with its title, developer, publisher, first release date, platforms, genre, era, the date of the article and a source link, and the table grows by one row with each game page. There are no articles in this section yet, so the page is kept out of search results until there is something here to read.
The first piece planned for it explains the dataset column by column: what each field means and where its value comes from. After that, our plan lists analyses the table will support as it grows: platforms by decade, how many games each developer has here, how genres drift over time, and the gaps between regional release dates, which the game pages already show one title at a time.
Until then, the table is usable as it stands. Every row names the game page it came from, and every game page lists its sources. Start with Sonic the Hedgehog, the first game in the table, or browse Retro, Now Playing and Upcoming, which between them hold every game the table records.
