Gothic II Complete Classic: what is known, what is not
A 2002 PC role-playing game reaches PS5, PS4, Xbox Series and Xbox One on 29 September 2026. The date is firm on three storefronts; the price is not.
On 29 September 2026, ten days from this writing, a role-playing game that first went on sale in Germany in November 2002 arrives on PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series S and X, and Xbox One. It is not a remake. Gothic II Complete Classic is the same game THQ Nordic put on the Nintendo Switch in 2023, now carried across to the other consoles, and the interesting thing about it ten days out is how much the storefronts agree on and what they still will not say.
The date, and what carries it
Three independent pages give the same day, and one of them is a ratings board rather than a shop.
| Where | What it says | Read |
|---|---|---|
| THQ Nordic announcement, 14 April 2026 | the line "Gothic II Complete Classic – 29.99 €" set against the date September 29, 2026 | 19 September 2026 |
| THQ Nordic showcase recap, 7 August 2026 | the same line, repeated | 19 September 2026 |
| Microsoft display catalogue, product 9NDW7NW3K662 | OriginalReleaseDate 2026-09-29T13:00:00Z | 19 September 2026 |
| PlayStation Store, concept 10010693 | "Releases on: 9/29/2026 02:00 PM UTC" | 19 September 2026 |
| USK, Germany | both console versions classified on 11.03.2026 | 19 September 2026 |
The two storefronts differ by an hour: Microsoft's entry unlocks at 13:00 UTC, PlayStation's at 14:00 UTC.
The publisher's line has not moved in the five months since April, when the announcement laid out all three Gothic re-releases with a price, a date and a platform list each. The August recap repeated this game's line unchanged. Dates do move, so treat the 29th as the current plan rather than a fact about the future.
The platforms
The April announcement puts this game on PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One and Xbox Series S and X, and the storefronts confirm three of those four directly. Microsoft's store page lists it as available on XboxOne and XboxSeriesX with Smart Delivery, so one purchase covers both. PlayStation's page carries separate notes for a PS5 version supporting DualSense vibration and trigger effects and a PS4 version supporting DUALSHOCK 4 vibration, which is how that store describes a cross-generation release.
Germany's classification board has been more selective: the USK has issued two certificates, 58493/26 for the Xbox Series version and 58496/26 for the PlayStation 5 version, both dated 11 March 2026, and none for the PlayStation 4 or Xbox One builds.
No Windows release of this package has been announced; the 2002 game is already on Steam as Gothic II: Gold Edition, a separate product with its own price.
The price, stated plainly
The publisher has named a figure. No storefront has.
THQ Nordic's April announcement and its August recap both say 29.99 €. That is a publisher statement in a press post, not a price tag on a shop page, and it is given in euros only. No dollar or sterling figure for the console release exists on any page we read today.
On the Microsoft side, every availability carries a ListPrice and an MSRP of 0.0 USD and none offers a Purchase action; the Xbox store page's list of purchaseable prices is empty, count zero. On PlayStation, the page is marked "Announced" and offers a wishlist button, with no price and no pre-order.
That the zero is a pre-release state is easy to check against the game's two siblings: THQ Nordic shipped one in July and has not shipped the other.
| Title | Release date on the Microsoft listing | Price on that listing today |
|---|---|---|
| Gothic Classic | 28 July 2026 | 29.99 USD, with a Purchase action |
| Gothic II Complete Classic | 29 September 2026 | 0.0 USD, no Purchase action |
| Gothic 3 Classic | 24 November 2026 | 0.0 USD, no Purchase action |
The released one has a real price and a buy button; the two that have not shipped have neither. Gothic Classic's 29.99 USD matches the euro figure the publisher gave for all three, which makes 29.99 in your own currency a reasonable expectation, but an expectation is all it is until the listing flips.
One more price is on the record. When the Switch release arrived in 2023, THQ Nordic gave its suggested retail price as 29.99 USD, 29.99 EUR and 24.99 GBP; Nintendo's US store still shows 29.99 USD with no discount, and the publisher's European store sells the physical Switch edition for 29.99 EUR.
What "Complete Classic" contains
The name is doing real work. Gothic II shipped in 2002; an expansion called Night of the Raven followed in Germany on 21 August 2003. Complete Classic is both in one purchase, and every page describing the package says so: Microsoft's catalogue entry, PlayStation's description, Nintendo's store text, the official game site, and Steam's About text for the equivalent PC bundle. The 2023 announcement is most specific about the expansion, describing Night of the Raven as adding the region of Jharkendar along with new weapons, enemies, skills and quests.
For the game itself, the publisher's numbers have been consistent across storefronts and years: over 100 missions, more than 500 individual characters each with a daily routine, more than 200 weapons and spells, and over 12 hours of English voice acting. PlayStation adds two details the others leave out, naming three guilds to join and putting the length at more than 50 hours.
The one console-specific claim is about controls: the official site lists "Tailor-Made Controls: Optimized UI and control scheme for a smooth handheld and console experience", which is a Switch-era line rather than a new one. Nothing we read today describes a change made for this release specifically, beyond the controller notes on PlayStation's page and an Xbox capability list promising achievements, cloud saves and an optimisation for Xbox Series X and S.
Who made it, and who is credited
Steam credits the PC original to Piranha Bytes, and the archived MobyGames list agrees, naming Piranha Bytes as developer and JoWooD Productions Software AG as publisher across every 2002 to 2005 regional release.
Microsoft's console listing credits a different name: its DeveloperName field reads "THQ Nordic GmbH" and its PublisherName "THQ Nordic". Nintendo's Switch page names THQ Nordic as publisher and leaves the developer field empty. No page we read today names the studio that did the console conversion.
Where the original came from
The archived MobyGames list gives the 2002 game a long, staggered rollout, which is why people in different countries remember it arriving in different years.
| Country | Release date | Notes from the listing |
|---|---|---|
| Germany | 29 November 2002 | published by JoWooD |
| Poland | 16 April 2003 | distributed by CD Projekt |
| United Kingdom | 13 June 2003 | distributed by Atari UK |
| Australia | 8 August 2003 | distributed by Atari Australia |
| United States | 28 October 2003 | distributed by Atari |
| France | 25 March 2005 | distributed by Bigben |
PEGI holds an independent trace of the same rollout: a PC record for Gothic II from Infogrames Europe, dated 13/06/2003 and rated 12 for Violence, matching the British date exactly.
The game has stayed on sale ever since. Steam's Gothic II: Gold Edition, the Windows equivalent of this package, lists at 19.99 USD, 16.75 GBP and 19,99 EUR today with no discount. This console release is not a rescue of a lost game; it is the same game reaching hardware it has never been on. The Switch version came first, on 29 November 2023, and THQ Nordic later bundled it with the first game as a retail-exclusive Khorinis Saga edition on 27 June 2024, at 39.99 EUR, 39.99 USD and 34.99 GBP.
Age ratings, and which ones are real
This is where the console release is thinnest, and a store showing a rating is not the same as a board issuing one.
| Board | What its own database says today |
|---|---|
| USK, Germany | two certificates for the console versions, 12 and over, descriptor Gewalt, classified 11 March 2026 |
| PEGI | one record for this title, 16 with Violence and Sex, platform Nintendo Switch, dated 29/11/2023; nothing for a console version |
| ESRB | certificate 39485 for Gothic II, rated M, platform Nintendo Switch; no certificate under this title and none for a console version |
Both storefronts nonetheless display ratings. Microsoft's entry carries eleven, including ESRB M with the descriptors Blood, Language, Violence, Sexual Content and Use of Drugs, PEGI 16 for Violence and Sex, and USK 12 for Violence, with a minimum user age of 16; PlayStation shows the same ESRB descriptors. Only the German one has a matching entry in the issuing board's own records for a console build.
PEGI's notes on the Switch version are the most specific public description of the content: violence between human and fantasy characters that is generally unrealistic but includes blood and lootable bodies, one brothel scene with both characters in underwear, bad language, and the consumption of alcohol, tobacco and a fictional drug the ESRB's summary names as swampweed. That is a 2002 adult RPG, and the M and 16 ratings are the ones to plan around rather than the 12.
What the publisher has not said
- Any price on any storefront, in any currency. The 29.99 € figure is a press-post statement from April, repeated in August.
- Whether the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One versions are separate builds, since Germany's board has classified only the current-generation ones.
- What has changed since the 2023 Switch version. No patch notes or comparison exist for the console release.
- Who converted it. The stores name the publisher in the developer field.
- Any Windows version of this package, which remains Gothic II: Gold Edition on Steam.
The publisher's own game site is the clearest sign of how little attention this release has had: its description still presents the game as reaching the Nintendo Switch for the first time and its news list stops in May 2024, though its buy panel does now carry JavaScript-only links for six platforms. THQ Nordic's news section has no post about the console release beyond the April announcement and the August recap.
Before the 29th
Three checks are worth making on the day rather than now. Look at the actual price on your storefront, since none exists yet. Check which console version you are buying if you are on older hardware. And be clear that this is a twenty-four-year-old game with a modernised control scheme and nothing else promised, which is the point for some people and the reason to skip it for others. If you want the world rebuilt rather than re-released, that is Gothic 1 Remake, a separate THQ Nordic product that shipped in June.
The row in the dataset
The dataset records Gothic II Complete Classic with THQ Nordic as publisher, no console developer named, a first release of 29 September 2026 across PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X and S and Xbox One, the genre RPG, and the era upcoming. That date is the console release, not the game: the original shipped in Germany on 29 November 2002, so on this row a re-release date stands in for a first release date. The same caveat applies to The Guild 1 Remake: Europa 1410.
