Phantom Blade Zero: what is known, what is not

S-GAME's wuxia action RPG is due 29 October 2026, the 28th in the US, after a 50-day delay. What each store charges, and the age labels no board database lists.

Phantom Blade Zero, a single-player action RPG from the Chinese studio S-GAME, is due on Thursday 29 October 2026 for PlayStation 5 and Windows PC, 23 days from this writing. Until June it was due on 9 September. Today the storefronts disagree about which day that is, about what it costs in Europe and about how old a player should be, and four ratings boards have published nothing at all. This page sets out what each source says and what none of them has published.

Everything below was read on 6 October 2026. The script in code/pbz-listing-audit.py re-reads the Steam and PlayStation listings and the ESRB, PEGI and USK searches and prints the same tables, so none of it has to be taken on trust:

python pbz-listing-audit.py

Correction, 10 October 2026: the script no longer re-reads the ESRB and PEGI searches. It now reads each site's robots.txt before its first request there and skips any page that file closes to automated readers, or any site whose file cannot be read. The ESRB's robots.txt closes its rating pages and search results to a group of named crawlers, and PEGI's server closed the connection before sending its file, so for those two boards the script prints the results read on 6 October, marked as such. It still re-reads the Steam and PlayStation listings, the age labels they display and the USK search, and it now names itself in every request instead of presenting itself as a web browser. The rest of the article is unchanged.

The date, and why Steam says the 28th

S-GAME puts the date in its website's page title, "RELEASE DATE 10/29/2026". The PlayStation Store gives an exact moment, the same one on all five storefronts we read: 2026-10-29T02:00:00Z, two in the morning on the 29th in UTC. Steam alone prints the 28th.

Where What it says today
S-GAME, official site RELEASE DATE 10/29/2026
S-GAME on PlayStation.Blog, 17 August October 29, footnoted "October 28 in the US and select regions"
PlayStation Store, concept 10017620 2026-10-29T02:00:00Z (US, UK, German, Japanese and Taiwanese stores)
playstation.com, US game page Release: 10/29/2026
Steam, app 4115450 Oct 28, 2026 (US); 28 Oct, 2026 (UK and Germany)
Epic Games Store not read: the store answered an automated request with HTTP 403

The footnote explains most of it. On local clocks the PlayStation timestamp is 7 pm on Wednesday 28 October in Los Angeles and 10 pm in New York, but 2 am on Thursday the 29th in London, 3 am in Berlin, 10 am in Beijing and 11 am in Tokyo. So the 28th in the US and the 29th elsewhere are one moment. What the footnote does not explain is Steam, which prints the 28th on its UK and German storefronts too, where that moment falls on the 29th. Steam gives no hour; its page says only that the game "plans to unlock in approximately 3 weeks". Nothing we read says whether the PC version unlocks at the PlayStation hour.

Dates move, and this one already has. Twenty-three days out, 29 October is still a plan rather than a fact.

How it got here

All of the history is on the record in S-GAME's own posts.

Date What happened Where it is recorded
24 May 2023 Revealed at PlayStation Showcase 2023 PlayStation.Blog; official site
7 June 2024 First gameplay trailer, at Summer Game Fest 2024; a touring demo the studio says reached "over 12,000 participants" official site
12 December 2025 "Confirmed for 2026/09/09 Global Launch" on PlayStation 5, Steam and the Epic Games Store Steam
29 December 2025 The studio reports "1,000,000+ wishlists just 15 days after opening on December 12" Steam

The June move came in a post headed "A Letter From Creative Director" and signed by Soulframe, S-GAME's chief executive: "Phantom Blade Zero will now launch on October 29, 2026, moved from its previous date of September 9, 2026." The letter calls it "A 50-day delay", which is exact, and its reasons are visual: "We have upgraded a number of character models and reworked many environments across the game". It adds that the studio worked to keep that look "even without relying on ray tracing", although in August 2025 it had announced ray tracing and NVIDIA's DLSS 4 with Multi Frame Generation for launch.

What it costs

Storefront, market Standard Digital Deluxe
Steam, US $59.99 $69.99
PlayStation, US $59.99 $69.99
Steam, UK £49.99 £59.99
PlayStation, UK £54.99 £64.99
Steam, Germany €59,99 €69,99
PlayStation, Germany €69,99 €79,99
PlayStation, Japan ¥8,580 ¥9,980
PlayStation, Taiwan NT$1,380 NT$1,680

In the US the two stores agree to the cent. In Europe they do not: the PlayStation copy costs £5 more in the UK and €10 more in Germany, on both editions, which on the standard edition is 10% more in the UK and about 17% more in Germany. On both stores and in all three Western markets the Digital Deluxe costs exactly 10 more in the local currency, and no listing carries a discount.

What the money buys:

  • Standard Edition: the full game.
  • Digital Deluxe Edition: the full game plus two outfits, Wulin Legend and Blood-Steel Form, a digital artbook and the digital soundtrack.
  • Pre-order, either edition: an early unlock of the Treasure Basin accessory, which "Increases Remnant Dust drop rate by 10%", and the Legacy outfit. Steam, the PlayStation page and the studio's own posts all add that both items "can also be obtained through in-game progression".

One line on the official site muddies the Deluxe half of this. Its Deluxe list ends with the same sentence, "The above content can also be obtained through in-game progression", directly under two outfits it labels "Deluxe Edition Exclusive", while Steam and the PlayStation page attach the sentence to the pre-order items only. Nothing we read settles whether the Deluxe outfits can be earned in play.

Ratings: labels on the stores, none in the databases

The PlayStation Store displays an age label in every market we read: ESRB Mature, for Blood and Violence, in the US; PEGI 16, for Strong Violence, in the UK; USK 18, for Gewalt (violence), in Germany; CERO Z, for Violence, in Japan; and "DGSC 15+ Parental Guidance" in Taiwan, for violence, inappropriate language, and tobacco and alcohol. Steam's data carries two labels it does not flag as generated, CERO Z with a required age of 18 and a Taiwanese C15, and three it does flag as generated: 12 for Brazil, 16 for Germany and 15 for Indonesia. All three generated labels name violence, and the German and Indonesian ones add alcohol and tobacco.

The boards' own databases have nothing. An ESRB title search for Phantom Blade returns 0 ratings. PEGI's search returns "Found 0 results from your query", which its own note says "may mean it was not classified by PEGI", or that the game is on a platform the database does not cover. The USK search finds 0 titles. CERO's public title search finds no match for Phantom Blade, or for S-GAME as maker; we could not tell how current that database is, so the Japanese label rests on the two stores. We could not trace any of the labels to a board's record.

The stores agree in Japan and Taiwan and disagree in Germany, where the PlayStation Store shows USK 18 and Steam's generated label says 16. A gap between what stores display and what a board has published is not new on this site's upcoming pages: Transport Fever 3 and Planet Zoo 2 showed it in the weeks before their launches. For a parent, the useful constant is that every label that comes with descriptors names violence, and the strictest, CERO Z and USK 18, put the line at 18.

What the game is, in the developer's words

These are the studio's claims, from its store pages and posts, not observations of a finished game.

  • The premise. Steam's description: "Framed for murdering his master, Soul suffers a devastating wound to the heart, leaving him just sixty-six days to live."
  • Weapons. The 17 August post promises "more than 30 main weapons, plus 25 secondary weapons known as Phantom Edges"; Steam and the PlayStation page say 20-plus Phantom Edges, so 25 is the more exact count. The 2024 trailer post says a player equips two main weapons and two Phantom Edges at once. Upgrades are reversible: "You can always reforge it, get those materials back, and reinvest them in another."
  • Difficulty. Three named modes: Wayfarer, offered "If you'd simply like to enjoy the story", Hellwalker with "more advanced and adaptive enemy intelligence", and Sixty-Six Days, "which isn't for the faint of heart". The PlayStation Store lists adjustable difficulty, game pausing and manual saving among its accessibility notices.
  • The world. In 2023 the studio described "a semi-open world" of "multiple maps of reasonable size" rather than one large map. The 17 August post adds side quests that "might even open up new story paths".
  • What kind of action. Steam's users tag it "Souls-like". The studio's 2023 framing pointed the other way: it described itself as a fan of hack-and-slash games such as Devil May Cry and Ninja Gaiden and said the slower Soulslike approach "doesn't convey the kind of action fest we have in mind". Which description fits is something only the finished game can settle.
  • The fights on film. Donnie Yen has been the game's creative consultant since 2023 and plays Mó Yuan, Soul's father, through facial and motion capture. The studio's account of how the combat is animated has shifted: in 2023 it said the moves are animated by hand "because motion capturing can't do it justice"; in January 2025 it said a boss fight "uses motion capture from several martial artists".

On PS5 the store lists one player, DualSense vibration and trigger effects, and "PS5 Pro Enhanced". On PC it is Windows 10 or 11 only, with 16 GB of memory at both of Steam's tiers, and the studio's table sets four graphics targets:

Tier Graphics card Target
Minimum GeForce GTX 1660 6 GB or Radeon RX 5500 XT 8 GB 1080p, 30 fps
Recommended GeForce RTX 3060 Ti 8 GB or Radeon RX 6700 XT 12 GB 1440p, 60 fps
Ray tracing GeForce RTX 5060 8 GB 1080p, 60 fps
Path tracing GeForce RTX 5080 16 GB 2160p, 60 fps

Every tier, the minimum included, is stated "with upscaling enabled". An SSD is required; no install size is given. Steam lists fifteen languages, with full audio in English and Simplified Chinese.

Where it comes from

Soulframe Liang, S-GAME's founder, told the story himself in 2023. It began with an indie game he made alone in RPG Maker in 2010, Rainblood: Town of Death. "Rainblood grew into a whole franchise and picked up a new name: Phantom Blade. Most of these games were for smartphones and never released outside of China." He put the fan base at over 20 million, a figure we cannot check. The 2025 Pangzhen post ties the new game to that start: the town Rainblood depicted "Fifteen years ago", the once hand-drawn Pang Town, returns as Pangzhen Township.

Both stores name S-GAME Publishing as publisher, and Steam names S-GAME Studio as developer. The official site's footer names a third company: "Phantom Blade, S-GAME, and all related marks are the properties of PARAWULIN PRODUCTION LIMITED." The studio's own announcements name three stores, the PlayStation Store, Steam and the Epic Games Store, and no Xbox version has been announced: xbox.com's search for the title returns 159 games, and none of the first 25 is this one.

What is not known

  • The hour on PC. Only the PlayStation Store publishes one.
  • The Epic price. The official site links an Epic Games Store listing, and it could not be read today.
  • A board rating anywhere. The labels are the stores'. The ESRB, PEGI, USK and CERO searches find no record, and in Germany the two stores differ by two years of age.
  • The install size. The requirements say only that an SSD is needed.
  • Length. Nothing we read gives a length in hours.
  • The Deluxe outfits. Whether they can be earned in play, given the official site's contradictory line.
  • Reviews. Steam shows "No user reviews", and nothing we read says when critics may publish.

Before the 29th

A pre-order buys an early start on two items that can be earned in the game anyway, so waiting for the first reviews costs only that head start. A UK or German player pays less for the same edition on Steam than on PS5, by £5 or €10. The Digital Deluxe is a cosmetic and collector's purchase at 10 more in any of the three Western currencies. PC players should read the requirements as a statement about upscaling, because even the minimum is quoted with it switched on. And anyone put off by the Souls-like tag has the studio's word that there is a mode for playing the story. The date is the part to hold loosely: it has moved once already, and the stores do not yet agree on which day it is.

Why this page has no pictures

This site reproduces only images a publisher or developer issues for press use, and we found no press kit for this game. The official site's /press, /presskit and /press-kit paths return 404, as does s-game.com/press, and s-game.com itself forwards to the game's site. That site's Media Hub offers trailers, screenshots and concept art under the tabs VIDEO, SCREEN SHOT and CONCEPT ART, with no press or editorial-use statement, above a footer that reads "All rights reserved". The PlayStation.Blog posts put download buttons on their images, but those belong to Sony's blog, not to a press kit. Under this site's press-kit rule, the page carries none.
